September 16, 2022 | boston activities, boston fun, boston lights, boston red sox, family activities, Franklin park zoo, The AbbyThe season is usually acknowledged by the Earth, Wind & Fire song “September”. However you want to celebrate it — especially scored to a delicious slice of R&B, disco era cheese — fall season is officially here, bringing with it plenty of Activities For The Whole Family Near The Abby. Here are our favorite happenings:
Red Sox End Of Season
Yeah, we know. Our beloved Boston Red Sox are lousy this year.
Still, the kiddos will always love the tradition of visiting Fenway, and the month is rife with fan giveaways. This month’s freebies include Funko Pop! figurines, tote bags, and bobbleheads.
Next Sunday, all children are invited to run the bases post-game.
Boston Lights
The Franklin Park Zoo transforms into an evening wonderland, complete with 55 illuminated outdoor displays that take your family through the rainforest, a bamboo forest, a canopy of lanterns, and so much more. Due to the popularity of the exhibit, guests must book in advance on the Zoo’s website.
One of the coolest attractions is a 66-foot rose-lined corridor — a romantic momentary getaway for mom and dad.
Fall Foliage Tours
The leaves will probably still be green around The Abby this month, but if you want to see the true fall colors, venture outside the city and experience spectacular changes mid-September. Take advantage of New England fall foliage tours. Visitors are guided through the reds and oranges that cling to the trees across the countryside, culminating in the rolling hills of the northwest part of our city.
New England Botanical Garden
This fall, watch as small enchanting creature flutter around the Botanical Garden, constructing a whimsical fairy land. The Enchanted Forest Fairy Houses features over 25 nature-inspired structures intricately created by artist Sally J. Smith. On select Friday evenings, the Garden lights up in dazzling displays and lighted houses, featuring enchanted activities.
However, you best be quick! The fairies will go back into hiding October 30th! Make sure to bring your wings and wands!
